"False Witnesses"

Prophecy: "Fierce witnesses rise up; they asked me things that I do not know. They reward me evil for good, to the sorrow of my soul." Psalm 35:11-12 NKJV Fulfillment: "But at last three false witnesses came forward and said, 'This fellow said, "I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days. —Matthew 26:60-61
Today if someone speaks falsely about you, they can be sued for libel. Jesus did not have that option, for the scribes and Pharisees were determined to get rid of this threat to their power -- and they were powerful! But Jesus remained faithful to the Father and was able to accomplish his task.
If you're ever discouraged by people who talk behind your back, telling lies about you, remember that God is on your side and knows the truth. "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31). Norman Vincent Peale suggests that you spend a few moments realizing that God is for you and say to yourself, "God is with me. God is for me. God is greater than all these things." This will give you confidence.
Harriet Beecher Stowe once said, "When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you ‘til it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give in, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn." False witnesses will be caught in their own lies and the truth will finally come out, if you just have the courage to hold on and trust God. Jesus, thank you for being my refuge in troublesome times. Amen.
